THE EXPERIENCE

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach". - Henry David Thoreau

In a world that moves at an unrelenting pace, where the noise of daily life often drowns out the simple joys of being, the need to pause and reconnect with oneself has never been greater. At Hushstay x Van Vadi we have created a space where time moves differently. Where nature awakens your senses. Tucked deep inside a forest on the edge of Dehradun and Rishikesh, Van Vadi is an invitation to leave behind the noise. It’s a place to slow down, breathe deeply and truly experience the abundance of a natural world.

Hushstay x Van Vadi boasts a remarkable accessibility that sets it apart—just a 30-minute drive from Jolly Grant Airport, 40 minutes from Rishikesh and 5 hours from Delhi. Yet, upon arrival, you’ll be enveloped by the soothing sounds of rustling leaves, flowing streams, and the enchanting melody of birdsong. This perfect blend of convenient access and natural tranquillity is truly a rare find!

P.S. : The 05 Bedrooms at Hushstay x Van Vadi are split into Heritage (02 Bedroom Unit) and Fusion (03 Bedroom Unit) that can be booked individually or together depending on the room size. Tariff starts at 03 guests in the Heritage Unit and varies depending on the number of guests.

THE SPACE

Hushstays x Van Vadi received the Platinum Award for Best Project in Architecture Hospitality at Festival of Architecture and Interior Design 2023.

This place is more than just a retreat; it’s a narrative intricately woven into every stone, tree, and breathtaking view—a sanctuary that invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Nestled on a picturesque six-acre hill, Van Vadi seamlessly integrates with its environment. From the terraced fields flourishing with rice, wheat, ginger, and turmeric to the indigenous fruit trees that add vibrant colors to the landscape, every aspect of this retreat pays homage to the land.

Our meticulously curated space features traditional mud and local stone, showcasing the timeless craftsmanship of the Pahadi culture, while Himalayan heirlooms evoke a sense of nostalgia and heritage. The rustic furnishings and reclaimed materials highlight our commitment to sustainability and restoration.

Marvel at the stunning valley views from the Verandah, where you can witness the sun rise majestically behind the mountains and the moon casting a gentle glow on clear nights, accompanied by a blanket of stars. Take a moment to immerse yourself in the ever-changing landscape as the day unfolds.

For a refreshing respite, enjoy the restored splash pool, once an irrigation tank, now the perfect spot to cool off on warm summer afternoons or dip your toes while savoring chai on a crisp winter evening.

Choose from the two unique units: the two-bedroom Heritage Wing, housed in a century-old Gau Shala, featuring a cosy BAITHAK (lounge) warmed by a stone fireplace in winter, or the newer three-bedroom wing that blends rustic charm with modern amenities, complete with a Yoga Shala and dining space, offering a refined yet comfortable escape that respects its stunning surroundings.

THE ROOMS

This thoughtfully curated space is a true reflection of the beauty of the natural environment that surrounds it. You can choose from a collection of hand-crafted living spaces. Both the Fusion (03 Bedroom Unit) and Heritage Rooms (02 Bedroom Unit) have been designed to evoke a sense of comfort and belonging from the moment you step inside.

Open verandahs are a signature feature of both the units, and they quickly become the heart of the property—where you’ll likely spend the most time soaking in the surroundings.

From here, you can enjoy panoramic balcony views of the stunning valley below. In the mornings, the rising sun casts its golden light over the mountains, just in front of your room. On full moon nights, the moonrise paints the sky with a soft, silvery glow. In winter, the baithak's cozy fireplace offers the perfect spot to curl up and unwind, adding a warm, intimate touch to the serene atmosphere.

These spaces are more than just places to stay; they are designed to inspire a deep connection with the environment, offering a tranquil retreat that feels like home.

HERITAGE ROOMS (02 Bedroom Unit)

2 Bedrooms · Sleeps 3 – 6 Guests

The Heritage Collection features cozy bedrooms housed in a centuries-old mud and stone structure, originally a traditional gau shala (cow shed), lovingly restored with thoughtful modern touches. The earthy tones, sturdy stone walls, and handcrafted wooden furnishings come together to create a warm, grounded atmosphere that immediately feels like home. Vintage lamps, traditional cushions, and other subtle accents evoke a sense of timeless heritage, while the minimalist décor keeps the space open and uncluttered. This allows the natural beauty of each element—from the textures of the stone to the grain of the wood—to truly shine.
