Perched on a ridge right next to the river Ganga and in the midst of a foothill forest, Hushstay x Aashraya is a hideaway like no other. The sweeping, turquoise river view is the star attraction of this place, a visual feast laid out from every other corner of this hideout. A 45km drive from Rishikesh and a three-kilometre hike gets you to this exclusive retreat, rewarding you with paradise upon arrival.
Pick from three independent cottages named after various titles given to the river Ganga, a tribute to its many facets. You can also opt for a fourth, exclusive one-bedroom cottage away from the rest, aptly named “Lover’s Pond”.
Start your day with some yoga, or a hike along the many trails around. Try their in-house tea infusions or the freshly squeezed vegetable juices, and their special pahadi dinner. But most of all, immerse yourself in the silence and the birdsong that is nothing less than a treat for wilderness lovers.

Don’t miss the unmatched waterfall hike that branches from this place and leads you to a magnificent fall under a beautiful, old colonial stone arch. The trail also leads to some showstopping views of the gorge around, and a hidden beach perfect for a private picnic.
THE SPACE
Complete with private sit-outs, the three cottages at Hushstay x Aashraya are spread across this lush property that is interspersed with both indigenous and fruit trees that attract a variety of birds, and also dotted with creative artwork made from scrap.
As you enter, you are welcomed by an inviting plunge pool on the side perfect to relax in after walks, an outdoor, covered lounge area overlooking the river where you can sketch, paint, play boardgames or unwind over coffee, a bonfire pit area to enjoy under starry and surprisingly nippy nights, and a lounge cum restaurant that serves a delectable spread at every meal, much of which comes from the one hundred per cent organic kitchen garden here.
If you appreciate healthy living, going green, the concept of recycling/upcycling almost everything and being one with nature, this is the perfect place for you. Everything on the premises is recycled, and the place is a learning for anyone who appreciates sustainable living. The space has been created to optimize the views, natural daylight, and most of all, to optimize the ultimate luxury of privacy
THE ROOMS
Space and privacy are the hallmarks of the cottages of Hushstay x Aashraya. Each of the three main cottages is spread across 1,000 square feet with large floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the forest and river views.
The cottages are air-conditioned as well as heated to suit the diverse temperatures of the valley and come with private sit-outs overlooking the wilderness around. Keeping in mind the idea of sustainable living, a lot of the building has been done with local material; little cement has been used during the construction of these cottages, and dead wood is collected for heating them up. The interiors give it a vintage feel, with a four-poster bed that adorns the centre of the room (with two extra beds, the cottage can house four guests easily), old-world chairs, and wooden cupboards and antique mirrors in the impressive bathroom that continues to showcase the stellar views.
The singular Lover’s Cottage has a smaller bedroom with colourful décor, a larger private sit-out, and a dreamy bathroom with a pantry area.
Please note: Alaknanda, Bhagirathi and Ganga are 03 similar cottages that are located next to each other close to the common dining area. Lover's Pond is a more private space located about 3-4 walk minutes away from the dining area. You can book one of the four cottages or multiple cottages together depending on the size of the group.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING

Only breakfast is included in the room tariff. Other meals can be ordered on-site at an additional cost

Meals are prepared by our in-house chef and are made of delectable homemade local cuisine. There is a fixed menu for each day of the month which will be shared with you upon confirmation. Apart from this, snacks are also available on an A-la-carte basis.

We request all our guests to inform the staff about their meal preferences well in advance.

If you have any special requests, please make sure you inform the staff 24-48 hrs in advance so that it can be sourced in time.
Getting There:

Hushstay x Aashraya is located away from all the hustle-bustle of the city of Rishikesh, about 45 kms ahead of Rishikesh on the banks of River Ganga. As with all great places, getting to this paradise-of-a-location requires a beautiful 03 kms / 01 hour moderate trek that takes you across a river bridge and then through a forest and a village. A good fitness level is required to walk this stretch comfortably.

Petrol Pumps: There are no petrol pumps close to the property so we request you to please fill up your tank before entering hills. Also, our power backup runs on Diesel, we always keep enough diesel to keep it running for 3-4 hours.

Our staff will receive you at the starting point of the trek and help you out with your luggage. Mules can be hired on prior request at INR 300 PER mule (to be paid by guest).

We are pet-friendly. If you are coming with your pet, make sure they are well-mannered and that nothing gets broken.

Sustainable Travel: We are very conscious about nature and we would like our guests to feel the same way. We try to reduce the use of single-use plastic as much as possible and hence, we do not provide cold drinks or bottled drinking water. Our drinking water comes from an RO and refillable water bottles are provided in each room.

Electricity: Aashraya is an eco-retreat and in our endeavour to go green, Aashraya is completely powered by Solar. Only Air-conditioners, Geysers and other heavy appliances run on electricity supplied by the government which is erratic and at times we have to manage without Air Conditioners. However, being in the middle of the forest and next to the Ganga, if you open up your windows and let the air through, there is always a nice breeze. We promise you will not regret it.

Physical Fitness: Our place is strongly recommended for outdoor lovers since we are surrounded by a number of great hiking trails. There is a waterfall and a secluded river beach just a few minutes hike away from the cottages. While you are here, we advise that you spend most of your time in the outdoors. If you are coming with younger kids / senior citizen who are physically fit and love outdoors, we can promise they will have a good time.
Wifi and Connectivity:

There is a good 4G connectivity for Airtel and Jio users, if you are planning to work from Hushstay x Aashraya. Being at an offbeat location, we do not have a WiFi connection in place.
Cancellation Policy:

Date of booking - 31 days before arrival : 25 % cancellation fee on the total booking amount

Besides visiting the more popular attractions in Rishikesh, there are plenty of things you can do at Hushstay x Aashraya -
Relaxation, gardening, helping at the farm (we encourage participation at the farm), meditation and yoga at the beach, hydrotherapy at the beautiful waterfall, hiking on the ancient Badrinath walking route or just taking a leisurely walk through the nearby villages and to the temple.
We also arrange for day workshops at Aashraya to educate people on up-cycling, sustainable farming, sustainable living, zero waste living etc. We would be happy to share, learn and expand our knowledge with you.

A charming little place tucked in the most unassuming part of Himalayas. What can I say. I'd gone to Hushstay x Aashraya with a bunch of friends to have a great, relaxing time and that is exactly what I got. Aashraya is wonderfully constructed, tastefully decorated, and superbly located in a place that inspires peace, adventure, and fun all at the same time. The idea of going to Aashraya is to cut off from the world of social media and electronics and find something that you can really connect with. If you do not want to drive all the way to the property via a dirt road, you need to park your car and then trek for about 45 minutes to reach the cottage. While some may be discouraged by it, we believe it made the stay a lot more pleasant. The location and the cottage itself are idyllic, and every moment is made all the more pleasurable by the hospitality extended by the hosts team, and the dogs. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our treks to the waterfall and the Ganges. We look forward to coming here again sometime.”
