Perched on a ridge right next to the river Ganga and in the midst of a foothill forest, Hushstay x Aashraya is a hideaway like no other. The sweeping, turquoise river view is the star attraction of this place, a visual feast laid out from every other corner of this hideout. A 45km drive from Rishikesh and a three-kilometre hike gets you to this exclusive retreat, rewarding you with paradise upon arrival.
Pick from three independent cottages named after various titles given to the river Ganga, a tribute to its many facets. You can also opt for a fourth, exclusive one-bedroom cottage away from the rest, named “Frangipani Cottage”.
Start your day with some yoga, or a hike along the many trails around. Try their in-house tea infusions or the freshly squeezed vegetable juices, and their special pahadi dinner. But most of all, immerse yourself in the silence and the birdsong that is nothing less than a treat for wilderness lovers.

Don’t miss the unmatched waterfall hike that branches from this place and leads you to a magnificent fall under a beautiful, old colonial stone arch. The trail also leads to some showstopping views of the gorge around, and a hidden beach perfect for a private picnic.
THE SPACE
Complete with private sit-outs, the three cottages at Hushstay x Aashraya are spread across this lush property that is interspersed with both indigenous and fruit trees that attract a variety of birds, and also dotted with creative artwork made from scrap.
As you enter, you are welcomed by an inviting plunge pool on the side perfect to relax in after walks, an outdoor, covered lounge area overlooking the river where you can sketch, paint, play boardgames or unwind over coffee, a bonfire pit area to enjoy under starry and surprisingly nippy nights, and a lounge cum restaurant that serves a delectable spread at every meal, much of which comes from the one hundred per cent organic kitchen garden here.
If you appreciate healthy living, going green, the concept of recycling/upcycling almost everything and being one with nature, this is the perfect place for you. Everything on the premises is recycled, and the place is a learning for anyone who appreciates sustainable living. The space has been created to optimize the views, natural daylight, and most of all, to optimize the ultimate luxury of privacy
THE ROOMS
Space and privacy are the hallmarks of the cottages of Hushstay x Aashraya. Each of the three main cottages is spread across 1,000 square feet with large floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the forest and river views.
The cottages are air-conditioned as well as heated to suit the diverse temperatures of the valley and come with private sit-outs overlooking the wilderness around. Keeping in mind the idea of sustainable living, a lot of the building has been done with local material; little cement has been used during the construction of these cottages, and dead wood is collected for heating them up. The interiors give it a vintage feel, with a four-poster bed that adorns the centre of the room (with two extra beds, the cottage can house four guests easily), old-world chairs, and wooden cupboards and antique mirrors in the impressive bathroom that continues to showcase the stellar views.
The singular Frangipani Cottage has a smaller bedroom with colourful décor, a larger private sit-out, and a dreamy bathroom with a pantry area.
Please note: Alaknanda, Bhagirathi and Ganga are 03 similar cottages that are located next to each other close to the common dining area. Frangipani Cottage is a more private space located about 3-4 walk minutes away from the dining area. You can book one of the four cottages or multiple cottages together depending on the size of the group.
